Reliable access to high-quality surfaces is critical in today’s fast-paced design and construction market.

Alongside shorter lead times, today’s customers demand more sustainable and cost-effective materials. For LX Hausys — a global brand known for its VIATERA quartz surface, HIMACS solid surface, TERACANTO porcelain surface, resilient flooring and other surfacing innovations — domestic production in the United States is

proving to be a major advantage. While they first established a plant in Adairsville, Ga., in 2005, their growing presence in the states puts them at the forefront of quartz and solid surface manufacturing for American consumers.

LX Hausys operates around the world ... but there's a strong American focus with the company's U.S. operations.

More Than a Corporation.

It might be surprising to learn that LX Hausys America Inc., part of South Korean-based LX Hausys Ltd., originated from a chemical company working to evolve in challenging times. Founded in 1947 as Lucky Chemical Industrial Corp. (which later became LG Chem), the corporation was instrumental in rebuilding South Korea after the Korean War. According to Mike Morici, senior director of channel management for LX Hausys America, the corporation was one of the first to start manufacturing what their country needed to get back on its feet. “They started making and distributing products like hair combs and basic essentials that people needed every day to get back to normalcy,” said Morici. Combining strengths from a background in chemistry and electronics, LG grew into a vast corporation known for home electronics, appliances, and more, including vinyl flooring, synthetic resins, and, beginning in 1995, acrylic solid surface materials. LX Hausys Ltd. was born out of the original larger corporation in 2021, further encapsulating its specific identity as a manufacturer for building and decorative materials. Coming to the U.S. to start manufacturing was a considered move. The corporation saw growing demand for solid surface in North America; in 2005, the first HIMACS plant was built on more than 100 acres of land in north Georgia.

The decision was driven by several logistics; Georgia offered a similar climate to South Korea — where the original plants were located — and proximity to major ports on the East Coast and transportation corridors, especially through and from the major metropolitan area of Atlanta. That part of Georgia is also considered the ‘carpet capital’ of America, so there was already a skilled workforce used to working with chemicals and similar manufacturing line processes as HIMACS. Today, LX Hausys operates five U.S. manufacturing plants, all in Adairsville: one HIMACS solid surface plant, three VIATERA quartz plants, and one plant for automotive interior materials, which supplies products to major car manufacturers. Notably, LX Hausys is the only manufacturer in the U.S. with a plant that produces both solid surface and quartz in the same location — a strategic advantage that enhances efficiency and allows for faster, more coordinated production across product lines. HIMACS manufacturing also offers outstanding color-matching capabilities. LX Hausys can match quartz, concrete, virtually any Pantone color, acrylic chip, or even create a fully custom hue — often with remarkably short turnaround times. This flexibility and speed in delivering on-color design needs adds another layer of reliability for fabricators and designers.

LX Hausys investment in U.S. operations includes three production lines for its VIATERA quartz surface line.

LX Hausys began with one production line for quartz surfaces more than a decade ago, and then expanded to meet demand.

LX Hausys uses top-line Breton equpment to produce quartz surfaces -- the second U.S. company to do so.

The Ideal Timing.

“The idea right away was to have more than one facility,” said Morici. “We knew this location was good; we needed to make sure that we picked a location where we worked well with the county, the city, and the state. Georgia was very willing to accommodate all of that.” In 2011, the first VIATERA line of engineered quartz was introduced. At the time, quartz was an emerging product, and there was only one other manufacturer in the U.S. LX Hausys was able to build the VIATERA plant — only the second of its kind in the nation utilizing the most advanced Breton equipment in the world. Two more plants were built of the same size, and in 2016 the automobile skin plant was also established.

Near these manufacturing plants is LX Hausys’ multi-million-dollar Central Distribution Center, built on 512,000 square feet of property in 2021. This space consolidates LX Hausys’ previous distribution services of three separate buildings into one unified facility, and it serves 14 regional warehouses throughout the U.S. and two regional warehouses in Canada. There is also additional space to accommodate LX Hausys’ long-term strategic growth plan. Meanwhile a 10,000-sq.-ft. showroom contains 40 full-size slabs of VIATERA and HIMACS colors — virtually the entire color palette of both brands. The office area contains product samples, literature, and other resources, and it is designed to host product training, customer meetings, and other events.

Commitment to Sustainability.

Sustainability is also central to the company’s strategy in the United States. LX Hausys has laid out a net zero roadmap for 2050 and continues to reduce emissions and energy use across its facilities. Many of their materials are third-party certified for indoor air quality and include post-consumer recycled content. “Some of our HIMACS solid surface colors include minimum 10% of SCS certified pre-consumer recycled content, reflecting our commitment to sustainability,” said Morici. “By incorporating post-consumer materials where possible, we’re helping give new life to resources that would otherwise go to waste.”

In North America, several of LX Hausys' operations have been pivotal in reducing environmental impact. The corporation mplemented several initiatives aimed at increasing the use of recycled materials and minimizing waste at its manufacturing facilities. Notably, a PVC recycling program exemplifies efforts to advance a more sustainable materials economy. The corporation was also named an Industry Mover in S&P Global's 2024 Corporate Sustainability Assessment, reflecting its consistent efforts in reducing carbon emissions and obtaining international environmental sustainability certifications.

The distribution center also includes full slab displays of all the LX Hausys products -- quartz surface, porcelain and solid surface.

Design-Driven Innovation.

While corporate efficiency and sustainability are important to consumers, it is the stunning designs of LX Hausys’ products that make them popular in the United States. Behind these slabs is a team of international designers collaborating closely with American-based product and design experts to produce the best materials for the U.S. consumer. Martha Wakelin, creative director for LX Hausys America, helps lead the U.S. team to establish what trends are growing stateside. Together with the nearly 100-strong design team in South Korea, the

minds behind these designs conduct customer surveys and travel to design shows globally, meeting with fabricators, architects and designers to gain insights about what colors, patterns and designs will resonate with the American consumer. With more than 59 international design awards, LX Hausys’ commitment to thoughtful, trend-driven design is evident. Collaborations at the corporate level with icons like Karim Rashid and Vera Wang have helped shape stunning and on-trend surface collections that merge form and function for the U.S. market.

Among the VIATERA surfaces produced by LX Hausys in the United States is Taj Crema, inspired by Taj Mahal quartzite and featuring NeoQ™ technology, LX Hausys’s low-silica innovation that uses up to 90% recycled materials.

Another U.S. made VIATERA surface is Cloud Ridge, part of the Suprema Collection and featuring a warm off-white base with intricate brown veining. Available in June, Cloud Ridge also features NeoQ™ low-silica technology.

A Reliable Source in Uncertain Times.

In the evolving landscape of global trade, recent tariff changes have shifted the conversation around material sourcing and product origin. With the implementation of new tariffs on imported quartz and solid surface products from certain countries, many international suppliers are seeing increased prices and longer lead times. For buyers, this means re-evaluating where their materials come from — and prioritizing companies that are already invested in American manufacturing and distribution. LX Hausys America stands out in this environment. With a significant U.S. presence already established, the company is well-positioned to deliver high-quality surfaces without the pricing volatility or supply-chain disruptions

tied to overseas imports. Consumers benefit from faster lead times, competitive pricing, and the reassurance of a steady, reliable supply. For homeowners, fabricators, designers, and builders, the new tariff landscape has underscored the importance of sourcing locally. LX Hausys America makes that choice easy, offering premium surface materials and an unwavering commitment to innovation, service, and sustainability. “Our mission is to create coordinated solutions across the home,” says Morici. “Whether it's countertops, floors, or wall panels, our goal is to provide designers and builders with beautifully integrated materials — backed by the strength of a trusted global brand and the reliability of domestic manufacturing.”
