SFA: What's the Answer?

Black Quartz Issues

Amesbury76

Although we have been warned and warn many people about the realities of black quartz tops we have some issues from a recent install we are hoping to at least minimize. Pics attached of a mitered waterfall island. Scratches, smudges etc are in several areas. This happened between shop and install. Has anyone had luck with field techniques to help repair, polish, etc., these issues? Some feedback on fab tricks would help as well. I know the shop handled it with kid hands and still had issues. Material is Silestone Eternal Marquina. Thank you.

Wow sorry that happened to you. We use permanent black marker to hide little defects on dark stone. It doesn't always work. We're now implementing a new policy for black - it's going to show scratches and smudges (customer signs off).

Thank you for the reply. Yeah, we had this one signed off on as well. We would still like to minimize if possible.

I see some non-porcelain razor blade scuffs, "Protective tape” left for too long leaving residue … acetone etching from trying to remove residue, scratches trying to scrape leftover residue.

Literal water streak … recycled water not rinsed? Leave it in “weather”? Plastic film?

"Always use a sharpie on black seams" best advice I've gotten from an OG.

Just my 2 cents ;)

Thank you for your reply. Those are some good possibilites. We do have a new impressive water filtration system though. The other points may have to be looked into. Take care.

We have had too many problems with dark-colored quartz so we stopped selling it entirely and push people into Black Pearl granite in polished or brushed finish.
